Service Details / How to Budget
What should I budget for a Graphic Design Project?
It depends on the requirements of your project. Contact us with some details about your project for a free quote. Project minimums are as follows (in other words, plan to spend a little more than listed here):
- Books / E-Books start at $1,700
- Miscellaneous graphic design projects and consultation start at $45
- Websites start at $350
Do I need to provide artwork, photographs, or other digital assets?
Any artwork that Second Glance Graphics can make from scratch is included with your quote. There are some types of artwork such as photography or specific illustration styles that we are not able to provide and use third party services for. In your quote you will be notified on which assets Second Glance Graphics can create, and which ones need to be sourced from a third party.
If you have specific artwork you want included like a logo or product photos, you will need to provide high resolution copies of those to us. If the files are not high enough resolution and we need to find a replacement or recreate the art file, a fee per artwork will incur.
If you need to source all the photography, illustrations, or other digital assets from a third party, you can do one of the following:
- Set aside a budget for purchasing these assets and have Second Glance Graphics purchase them on your behalf. You will only be charged for the cost of the actual asset used in your final design.
- Find the assets yourself, license it under your own name/company, and share the file with us to make your design.
- Request to only use Public Domain or Creative Commons sources and have Second Glance Graphics search for the artwork. A fee per artwork is incurred.
- Search for all the artwork you need in the Public Domain or Creative Commons sources and share the files with us. You will also need to share with us the appropriate credit/copyright information. Assets in these databases still need to be credited appropriately.
I want to source all my own artwork. Where can I find digital stock assets?
There are many budget friendly websites where you can find ready-made templates, photographs, illustrations, and many other assets for your project. Here are some sources we have used successfully in the past:
- Wikimedia Commons (use filters to search for public domain or creative commons files)
- Pexels (Photographs and video clips, free)
- Unsplash (Photographs, free and paid options)
- Pixabay (Photographs, Illustrations/Vectors, Videos, Music,… Free)
- FreeImages (Photographs, icons, illustrations, free)
- Reshot (Icons and Illustrations,… free)
- Pond5 (Video, Music, Photographs, Illustrations/Vectors,… Paid)
- Adobe Stock (Music, Photographs, Illustrations/Vectors,… Paid)
How fast will my order get done?
Your contract will outline a tentative timeline for your project. You will need to notify us if you have a hard deadline so we can adjust our design schedule. The timeline is also affected by the speed of communication (if you need to get feedback from more than one person for example) and when payments are received.
When do I have to pay for my project?
For projects under $1,000, we require full payment upfront.
For projects over $1,000 you have the following options:
- Pay in full in one payment
- Pay 50% down to start the project, remaining 50% after the first draft
- Pay 34% down to start the project, 33% after first draft, remaining 33% after second draft.
Placing an Order / Restrictions
How do I place an order?
Contact us by e-mail with some details about your project and you will receive a quote within a business day.
Are there restricted topics, themes, or projects that are ineligible for services?
Not every designer is right for every project. Since we are creating custom art and designs, we try to align ourselves with projects where our expertise is the most valuable and helpful. And just as individuals can choose what topics to engage with, we do not force ourselves to work on projects we can’t connect with. The following is a list of businesses, organizations, events, and project topics that are currently ineligible for services at Second Glance Graphics:
- Businesses, organizations, or events that promote illegal or violent activities.
- Businesses, events, or projects that promote nudity, sexually suggestive content, sexual activities, pornography, or sexual violence. This category does not include content of a medical or educational nature.
- Projects with overly gratuitous use of vulgar language. A couple of swear words will not disqualify your project and context can affect this category. You may contact us to discuss the specifics of your project if it falls within this category.
- Businesses, organizations, events, or projects that promote addictive behaviors such as gambling, drugs, excessive drinking, and excessive smoking.
- Businesses, organizations, events, or projects that promote horror and gore themes, the occult or occult practices, witchcraft (including reiki, new age, and “healing touch” practices), Satan or spirit worship, or religious cults. This category does not include projects of a sci-fi or fantasy nature that may contain these elements for storytelling purposes. It also does not include projects of a medical or historical nature. For example a book teaching modern witchcraft practices would fit this category but a book describing witches and their beliefs in a historical context would not.
Can you print my projects for me? / Do you have same day printing?
While we only offer design services, we can connect you with a third party printer or help manage your printing at a third party printer. If you want us to manage your printing or assembly of specialty items, we can include that in your project quote.
We are not able to offer same day printing or copy/print services. We encourage you to connect with a local printer for same-day printing needs.
What kind of projects can you design? / What can’t you design?
We specialize in graphic design for print and digital applications: website, books, cards, banners, catalogs, flyers, postcards, posters, signs, window signs, stickers, T-shirts, book covers, digital banners, digital ads,… etc.
We do not currently offer illustration services (such as for a graphic novel) but we can connect you with an illustrator. We also do not offer custom 3D modeling, photography services, or video editing services.
Do you offer marketing services?
We do not offer marketing services at this time. We only offer graphic design.
Payment / Quotes / Contract
How do I pay for my project? / When is payment required?
You can pay with a physical check sent through the mail or use a credit card, debit card, or bank account to pay an online invoice. Your quote will have information on how to pay and you can select which option your prefer. Payments made by check do not incur a 3.5% administrative fee.
I am a non-profit/registered charity, can I get special pricing?
There are no special rates for non-profits/registered charities at this time. If you are tax-exempt, we will need a copy of your exemption in order to process your final invoice.
What is included in my quote?
The quote includes pricing for any original artwork and design created by Second Glance Graphics, and up to three revisions in the final stage.
Additional costs you will need to consider that can be included in your quote:
- Specific stock assets (such as photographs, models, or vectors needing to be purchased from a third party site).
- Setting-up your file for printing (if you are printing your project with a third party printer).
- Printing, handling, and delivery (if you want us to handle the printing for you). This will be in a separate quote.
- Cost of manufacturing/assembly of a specialty item such as an outdoor banner or sign. A separate quote will need to be obtained from the provider of your choice as Second Glance Graphics only provides the design and not the assembly. We can help you obtain a quote for specialty items.
What are the revisions in the final stage? / What if I need more revisions?
Your project is considered in the final stage when 90% of the design decisions have been finalized and you are comparing completed proofs. You will be notified when the project has entered its final stage. Your quote includes up to 3 revisions in the final stage. You do not have to use up all your revisions if you are happy with the first completed proof.
The limit on revisions is to encourage decision making and prevent projects for staying open longer than they should. If you require more than 3 revisions in the final stage, these will be billed hourly.
When does my quote become a contract?
When you sign off on the quote and the associated terms and conditions, your quote becomes the contract governing the work.
I’ve made my deposit. When can I expect work to be completed?
Your contract outlines an estimated timeline. You will be notified when work officially starts with an updated timeline if applicable. While we do our best to keep customers updated on the status of their projects, if at anytime you feel you need an update, you may contact us.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept payment in US dollars. You can use a credit card, bank transfer, or check. Transactions processed through the online invoice system are subject to a 3.5% administrative fee.
Can I pay with an exchange of service or exposure?
We only accept payment in American US dollars. We do not exchange services nor do we work for exposure.
Cancel Order / Pause Work / Refunds
I need to cancel an order: should I ask for a stop or pause of work?
If you need to temporarily stop an order for budgeting reasons, we recommend you ask for a pause instead. A pause allows you to keep the credit of your deposit and the work already completed for up to 6 months. The credit can only be applied to the continuation of the original project and not towards a new project.
A stop of work is a request to completely cancel a project. No credit is earned in this case.
To cancel or stop an order, send us an email or contact the phone number on your quote.
What is your refund policy?
If you need to stop work, request it as soon as possible (via email or call the number on your contract). If no work has been completed on your project, you are eligible for a full refund. If the final files have already been delivered to you and completed according to your contract, you are not eligible for a refund. Funds sunk into partially completed projects cannot be refunded but unused funds may be eligible for a refund. Please refer below for specific refund policies relating to your project and service type:
- Projects $1000 and under: If the project is in progress and you ask to stop work you may be refunded up to 30% of the original quote as funds have already been sunk into your project as long as the project has not entered the final stage. Projects in the final stage cannot be refunded.
- Projects $1001 and over: if the project is in progress and you ask to stop work, the deposit (the first 34%) is non-refundable but funds beyond the deposit are eligible for a refund as long as the project has not entered the final stage. Projects in the final stage cannot be refunded.
- No work in progress files will be provided for work that is paused or stopped.
Customers that ask for more than two projects to be refunded will not be allowed to place another order. Customers that place a credit card charge-back on finished work will be banned from placing any new orders and have any ongoing orders cancelled.
If you need to stop work for budgeting reasons, we recommend you ask for a pause instead. A pause allows you to keep the credit of your deposit and work already completed for up to 6 months.
Original Files / Project Files / Copyright
When do I get my final files?
For projects under $1000: since full payment is required up-front, you will receive your final files as determined by the timeline in your contract. You will be notified when work officially starts and given an updated timeline if applicable.
For projects over $1000: final files are released when the final payment is received.
Do I own the copyright of the final files?
In cases where all the artwork is original and final files have been delivered in full as per your contract, ownership is transferred to you. If you want to protect your files, you can register for copyright protection with the copyright office.
In cases where your project features assets purchased or used with permission from third parties, you will need to refer to those particular license agreements to determine what you can copyright. The final files are still provided to you, with any license agreements if applicable.
